Overview
This article describes how to upgrade your System76 machine to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS "Precise Pangolin".
Important!!!
If you will be performing a network upgrade, without doing a clean installation, we recommend that you wait one week before upgrading to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. This will allow the server activity to return to normal levels, and allow you to complete the upgrade faster. If you're performing the upgrade after May 3, 2012, then you're all clear.
Upgrading to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin)
First, follow the official Ubuntu upgrade process. Your System76 driver repository will be disabled during the upgrade process.
Notes about fresh installation
For users who wish to upgrade immediately upon release, or who simply want to perform a clean installation for any other reason, we recommend following the Restoring Your System instructions, as they detail performing a clean installation of the latest version of Ubuntu on your computer.
Download/install the latest System76 driver
You need to download the latest version of the System76 Driver Application from here. Simply click on the link, find the second link from the bottom on that page, then use the "Open With Ubuntu Software Center" option:
Once the download is finished, the Ubuntu Software Center will open automatically:
Click on the "Install" button to install the driver. Ubuntu may prompt you for your password; this is normal. Once the process is finished, the driver application is installed.
Run System76 Driver
After downloading the driver, click on the Ubuntu Button at the top left of the launcher to open the Dash Home:
Type "system76" into the search box. The driver will be the first result. Click it to open the driver:
Then click on the Restore System button:
The text at the bottom of the window indicates the current status:
When this process is finished, you will be notified to restart your system for all of the changes made to take effect. Go ahead and do so, then you will be all set up!
