Connecting to Your Network

Connecting to your network is as simple as plugging in your Ethernet cable and your ready to go. To connect to a wireless network:

  • Make sure your wireless hardware switch is turned on (The wireless LED should be lit)
  • Click on the Network Manager icon next to the clock
  • Choose the wireless network you want to connect to
  • If the network is secured you will be prompted for the appropriate security key

Sharing Folders on Your Network

  • Right click on the the folder you want to share
  • Click Share Folder
  • Install SMB file sharing if you are prompted to do so (this installs Samba which allows sharing with Windows and Linux machines)

  • Next to Share with: choose SMB
  • Give your share a name and comment (description)
  • To make the folder read only tick the checkbox next to Read only
  • Tick the checkbox next to Allow browsing folder
  • Click OK

Accessing other computers

Set up the folder to be shared on the other computer. If this is a windows machine the steps will vary depending of the flavour of windows used. Open Places->Network Servers. You should see your shared PC and be able to browse its shared folders. Image:Network_browsing.png
