The Open Source Web Browser

Firefox is a cross platform, open source, web browser. The increasingly popular browser has replaced Internet Explorer on many Windows desktops and is typically the default web browser for Linux distributions. All System76 computers come with Ubuntu Linux pre-installed, which uses Firefox as the default web browser.

Internet Explorer security concerns as well as tabbed browsing contributed to Firefox's extrodinary growth since the 1.0 release on November 9th 2004. Firefox 1.0 reached 100 million downloads on October 19, 2005. Firefox 1.5, released November 29, 2005, reached over two million downloads within a day and a half. As of February 12, 2007 Firefox has been downloaded over 300 million times.
