Overview

Thanks to OpenOffice it's easy to create letters, spreadsheets, presentations and more. OpenOffice is a complete and integrated open source productivity suite. Instead of forking out the $$$ for Microsoft products this completely free alternative includes all of the functionality you need and compatibility with your current Microsoft Office documents.

Example Documents

Ubuntu includes example documents and files. Go to Places > Home Folder > Examples. This small collections highlights what you can do with free open source software.

Microsoft Office Documents

OpenOffice can open, modify, and save Microsoft Office documents. Simply double click a Word, Excel, or Powerpoint file to open it in OpenOffice.

Save in MS Office Format

  • Click File > Save As...

  • Click the arrow next to File type: and choose Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP (Also works for Office 2003)

Export as a PDF

image:Open_office_export_pdf_icon.png You can easily share documents with the OpenOffice export to PDF feature. Anyone with Adobe Reader can open and view your document or spreadsheet.
