What is Knowledge76?

Knowledge76 is a community effort to bring together all open source software knowledge, tips and tricks, how to's and hardware compatibility information. Often times trying to find the answer to a Linux or open source software question means searching through forums and mailing list, trying one thing then another. This knowledge base aims to be a definitive source of information gleaned from System 76's forums and other Linux forums, mailing list, and users like yourself.

Knowledge76 has taken many cues from Wikipedia The Free Encyclopedia. We thank them for their extraordinary work in creating the greatest Encyclopedia available.

It has been a long time coming. Thousands of programmers world wide have labored endlessly to bring forth extraordinary software on a superior desktop operating system. There continue to be encumbrances to Linux on the desktop; primary among those, a significant base of Windows users. Nonetheless, pushing forward is how Linux and System 76 can bring this operating system to the masses. Unfortunately, merits alone may not convince users to make the move. Excellent support, innovative hardware, and clear documentation are necessary. This is System 76. Our hallmarks of quality and reliability as well as dedication to open source ideals establish the foundation of our company.

The Open Hardware Project

Sponsored by System76, the Open Hardware Project is an effort to provide transparency to buyers and users of computers. In doing so, System 76 constantly improves the systems it delivers much in the same manner that open source software is constantly improved by its users.

• Users can determine exactly what components are in their computers

As you may have noticed, our systems are named after African animals. In fact, they are not only named after these wonderful beings but dedicated to them.
